A Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) is a Registered Nurse who has received advanced training and education in the areas of physical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of common health problems. Certified Nurse Practitioners are qualified to prescribe many prescription drugs and are associated with consulting physicians. Regulated by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine, licensure and continuing medical education for CNPs are required for continued practice.
Performing annual GYN exams, pap smear testing, prescribing birth control pills, OB check ups, managing vaginitis and urinary tract infections, and handling menopausal symptoms and hormone replacement therapy are examples of typical visits managed by CNP's. Health maintenance, health promotion, and disease prevention are paramount in a CNP's practice. Anticipatory guidance, screening for diseases and cholesterol testing are additional CNP services. Certified Nurse Practitioners are ideal providers for young women coming in for their first GYN examination.
The Certified Nurse Practitioners work closely with the physicians to provide quality health care to our patients. We invite you to make an appointment with one of our Certified Nurse Practitioners for all your routine gynecological and obstetric care. |
