In Office Procedures Q & A

What are in-office procedures?

In-office procedures at The Center for Women's Health include diagnostic tests and treatments performed at the office. Common in-office procedures include:

Ultrasounds

Ultrasounds are noninvasive diagnostic imaging tools. The Center for Women's Health offers in-office ultrasound testing to evaluate your reproductive organs to confirm or rule out a gynecological problem.

The Center for Women's Health also offers in-office ultrasounds for obstetric care, which may be used to confirm pregnancy, screen for chromosomal abnormalities, and assess your baby’s growth. They can also evaluate your uterus and placenta throughout your pregnancy.

Placement of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs)

To meet your birth control and family planning needs, The Center for Women's Health offers Nexplanon® and Mirena®, which are LARCs that require in-office placement by your OB/GYN.

Implanon is a birth control implant placed under the skin in your upper arm that prevents pregnancy for up to three years. Mirena is an intrauterine device (IUD) placed in your uterus that prevents pregnancy for up to five years.

Endometrial ablation

For women suffering from menorrhagia, or abnormally heavy menstruation, The Center for Women's Health offers in-office endometrial ablation with Her Option™ or NovaSure®.

Her Option uses cold temperatures to freeze and destroy the lining of your uterus, while NovaSure uses radiofrequency energy. These treatments decrease menstrual bleeding and improve your quality of life.

Mammography

For breast cancer screening, The Center for Women's Health offers in-office mammography. During the X-ray procedure, your OB/GYN captures images of your breast tissue to screen for abnormalities.

How do I know if I need an in-office procedure?

Your OB/GYN at The Center for Women's Health determines if you need an in-office procedure during your routine gynecology exam or obstetric care. An in-office procedure may be recommended to diagnose or treat a gynecological condition.

Your OB/GYN reviews the details of your in-office procedure so you know how to prepare and what to expect.
