What types of surgery are available?

The Center for Women’s Health specializes in a broad range of surgical procedures. With different training and specialties, the skilled OB/GYNs can perform a variety of surgeries, including: 

• Laparoscopic gynecologic surgery and pelviscopy
• Laser surgery
• Female pelvic reconstruction surgery
• Minimally invasive surgery 

With these specializations, they can perform surgery to diagnose and treat a wide range of OB/GYN conditions. For example, they can perform a cervical biopsy to collect a small sample for lab testing if you have an abnormal Pap smear.

Surgery can also be performed to treat specific conditions. Surgery can correct pelvic organ prolapse or ablate your endometrium to ease heavy menstrual bleeding.

What is minimally invasive surgery?

The goal of minimally invasive surgery is to perform the procedure you need with fewer and smaller incisions. This minimizes your post-operative recovery time, discomfort, and scarring.

Many providers at The Center for Women’s Health are trained in using an endoscope, a long, thin tool with a camera at the end. By inserting the endoscope through a small incision in your abdomen, your surgeon can perform a number of gynecological procedures through the keyhole incision. 

This technique is known as laparoscopy. When used to treat gynecological conditions, it may also be called pelviscopy. 

For more advanced minimally invasive procedures,  your OB/GYN may use a hysteroscope inserted through your cervix. 

Where is my surgery performed?

The Center for Women’s Health providers a broad variety of procedures from the comfort of their offices. 

If you do need to visit a hospital for your surgery, the practice has a partnership with Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News. The Center for Women’s Health trusts the caring, expert staff and wants their patients to have access to state-of-the-art technology. They also have arrangements at select other hospitals in the area if needed.
